Couple of the Month: #TeamMwenya

Couple of the Month: #TeamMwenya

Every month, Sheridan and I want to feature a married couple of the week. We know many of these couples personally. Others we have come to admire from afar. Either way, we appreciate happy and healthy marriages. Ones that recognize the messiness of marriage and still commit to lifelong partnership.

This month we want to feature Muta and Christine Mwenya. We always ask our couples to submit a photo that best represents their marriage. Muta and Christine are an amazingly gifted couple who are doing life together in Niles, Michigan. Take a few minutes to learn a bit more about their story.

1. How long have you been married?

15 years.

2. When did you know they were the one (include his version of the story vs. her story)?

Her story: I knew that Muta was the one when he canceled our first date because he had promised his nieces that he would spend time with them.

His story: I knew that Christine was the one the first day I met her in 1999 on the steps of the chapel in the women’s dorm. I saw her and never had I seen a more beautiful dark chocolate princess in my life.

3. What are some of the things you do to keep your relationship growing (and spicy)?

A lot of spontaneous sex in a lot of random location mostly in cars. Hahaha laughing but very true!

We pray, serve God’s church together, travel together, and challenge each other to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. We love working out together. We just love doing everything together.

4. What part of marriage wound up being pleasantly surprising for you as a couple?

The fact that we actually enjoy each other’s company. Many people complain that they need a break from their spouse. We can’t get enough of each other most of the time. Not to say we don’t have our moments but even in those moments, there’s no one else I’d rather hang with but my spouse. We are best friends.

5. What would you say is the most challenging this about being married?

We are complete opposite’s on almost everything!

6. If you could name one thing that brought you the most joy as a married couple what would it be?

For Christine, quality time spending time as a family that gives me the most joy. For Muta, the most joy was bringing our kids home from the hospital and watching them grow as we parent together. But most recently discovering our mutual love for travel. Traveling with my boo is a blast! Also, the fact that Christine likes 99% of Muta’s random music choices.
