Couple of the Month: #TeamSmith

Every month, Sheridan and I want to feature a married couple of the week. We know many of these couples personally. Others we have come to admire from afar. Either way, we appreciate happy and healthy marriages. Ones that recognize the messiness of marriage and still commit to lifelong partnership.

This month we want to feature Jermaine and Angel Smith. We always ask our couples to submit a photo that best represents their marriage. The Smiths have an amazing story that we couldn’t wait to share. They are members of our church and do life together here in Little Rock, Arkansas. Take a few minutes to learn a bit more about their story.

1. How long have you been married?

17 years.

2. When did you know they were the one (include his version of the story vs. her story)?

His story: 1993 in high school. I was at the mall, the summer of 1992 I saw her. I then knew she was the one for me. Years passed. Easter of 2004, I made up my mind that I was going to find her and make her my wife. November 19, 2005, we became one. Just like God planned it.

Her story: After seeing how persistent he was in dating me, attending church with me (w/o me asking). He was also nurturing and romantic. I pulled my “qualities in a spouse” list out of my Bible and he actually met everything I had asked God for.

3. What are some of the things you do to keep your relationship growing (and spicy)?

Him: 1. Act like we are still dating. 2. Take lots of honeymoons/vacations. 3. Doing ministry together.

Her: 1. Pray together daily. 2. Wear sexy items to bed. 3. Communicate, communicate, communicate.

4. What part of marriage wound up being pleasantly surprising for you as a couple?

His: Just seeing how God blessed us in ways that are just mind-blowing.

Her: In spite of us, God still continues to show His grace.

5. What would you say is the most challenging this about being married?

His: Taking the “I” out of marriage and putting God and my wife first. Just denying yourself.

Her: Accepting and dealing with the fact we are ever changing and growing.

6. If you could name one thing that brought you the most joy as a married couple what would it be?

His: When God blessed me with the number one person for me. Her name is Angel Smith.
